Ebay has made sellers upset with the constant increase of fees and change in policy. A lot of sellers opt to quit like bargainland, a used to be powerseller of ebay, now sells at overstock.com and bidtopia.com. A few more sellers, like Vintage Fashion Library, Kratom Cafe build their own site. Barker Buckles, a store of stylish belt buckles has made astounding sales at Amazon.com when it decided to leave ebay and is also planning to build its own site. Although, these sites may have admitted that ebay has been a great marketing tool for them they just need to shift gears to keep them to stay in the business.
Just recently, ebay reduced its upfront costs such as listing fees, which dropped from a starting price of $0.20 to $0.15 for traditional auction listings, and made gallery photos free. However, eBay is adding more costs to the back end for many sellers with higher final-value fees, the commission eBay takes after a sale. Top sellers will be rewarded with greater visibility and protections, but - in perhaps the most controversial aspect of the shake-up - sellers will no longer be able to leave negative feedback for buyers.
In order to address this issue, ebay has thought of another strategy. As new company recruit and social media veteran, Richard Brewer-Hay announced the Ebay Ink. “This is the first time we're giving them direct access at the corporate level. I think, with a two-way dialogue, sure - there are going to be changes that will come out from that, because we listen here.”
In this case, the sellers will be given the opportunity to direcly talk to the company which is very much different from the Chatter blog, according to him, “eBay Ink aims to give readers a peek inside eBay's internal operations.” Although it is hard to track down the effect of a one week strike in ebay, this situation makes a bad reputation to the company and it is but sensible to take every possible action to it before the worst happens. Opening lines of communication may help reduce the fire but I guess it is not the real issue, sellers are still asking if they can get back leaving feedback for buyers and stabilize their listing fees and policies.
